New Parents
Preparation for school
Starting school is a big step. When your child joins, they become a member of an extended school family and will make memorable and enduring friendships. Staff are always available and work closely in cooperation with parents. There is daily communication and any concerns, however small, can be dealt with immediately. Parents are always kept fully informed of their child’s activities.
- Your child should look forward to school but avoid building up unrealistic expectations.
- Do not expect your child to be able to tell you everything that happens at school.
- Your child will be physically and mentally tired at the end of a school day.
- Your child’s friendships are immensely important to him/her. Encourage them by teatime invitations etc. and never get drawn into children’s quarrels. They blow over very quickly!
- Bring and collect your child to/from school in good time. You are building up lifelong attitudes to punctuality and time management. Your child will be excited about seeing you in the afternoon.
- Help your child to obey the rules of the school. School and home work together with great effect. Cooperate with homework assignments, uniform and jewellery / toy rules etc.
- Your child will become a member of a wider community and will begin to move away from self-centredness. Expect your child to become socially aware, willing to help others and to share.
- Your child will experience a structured day with predictable adult responses. As far as possible, try to provide your child with a steady routine, providing regular mealtimes and bedtimes.
- We expect your child to behave well at all times. We hope you will expect this too.
